NCAA Division III Eligibility
NCAA Division III recruiting and eligibility are less complicated than Division I and II. Unlike in NCAA Division I recruiting, athletes do not have to register with the Eligibility Center. However, this does not mean that Division III schools are lenient about academics.
All NCAA student-athletes, regardless of division, are required to meet a set of academic requirements. The difference with NCAA Division III eligibility is that the standards are not universal.
Division III conferences and colleges set their own academic standards. In many cases these standards are actually higher than those of the NCAA Eligibility Center. Check with individual schools for more details.
The main point to take away is that there is no general list of eligibility rules governing Division III athletics. Division I athletics typically involve more commitment, so eligibility rules must be fairly strict and universal. On the other hand, Division III athletics tend to emphasize athletics as a relatively minor part in a larger process of education.
It is for this reason that each Division III school might have different eligibility requirements. Each school can best determine how its student body might benefit from athletic competition. You can learn more about the difference between Divisions I, II, and III.
